Miyota 9015
A 24-jewel Japanese automatic with a smooth 28,800 vph beat rate. Hacking seconds for precise setting, hand-winding for the days it sits in a drawer, and a reputation earned in watches ten times this price. We could have made our own and it would have been worse.
Four things it does
Automatic winding
The rotor charges the mainspring with every wrist movement. No batteries, no plugs, no planned obsolescence.
Hacking seconds
Pull the crown and the second hand stops. Set the time against a signal, push the crown, and it resumes exactly there.
Hand-winding
Not worn it for a few days? Twenty clockwise turns of the crown and it is running again — no shaking required.
42-hour reserve
Take it off on Friday night, put it on Monday morning, and it is still keeping time. Just about.
